WELCOME MESSAGE

  Nowadays, malignant tumors, as a major category of diseases have become a serious health problem worldwide. Among all treatment means, the proton and heavy ion irradiation technique has internationally been recognized as the cutting-edge radiation therapy technique to treat malignancies because of its efficacies and less toxicities from the clinical experiences in the past 3 decades. More importantly, it significantly improves the outcome for those tumors that are resistant to currently widely used X-ray irradiation. Therefore, it has attracted much attention in oncology society, domestic and international. Recently, more proton and carbon ion radiotherapy centers have been built or under construction. We are sure that this advanced irradiation technique will benefit caner patients.

  Our center, Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center (SPHIC) has been officially opened in May 2015. Since then, we have treated over 5,700 patients by proton and carbon ion radiotherapy. Our clinical experience demonstrates again that this new irradiation technique benefit cancer patients greatly, prolonging patients’ lives and improving their quality of lives. In order to share our experience of proton and carbon ion radiotherapy with international and domestic particle therapy society, including medical physics studies and clinical applications, and innovation of proton and carbon ion therapy techniques in SPHIC, we organized “Shanghai International Symposium on Particle Therapy” (SISPT) in 2015 and 2017. Now we organize SISPT 2023 to continue and deepen the exchange and cooperation between SPHIC and international particle therapy society and domestic colleagues as well.

  The objectives of SISPT 2023 is “Promoting the progress of proton and heavy ion therapy by international collaborations”. Meantime, our colleagues in China would lean the most advanced development in the world, which will help Chinese radiation society and push the proton and heavy ion therapy in a right way. We are very honored that the top PTCOG leaders and a number of international well-know experts will come to join us.

  We are sure that our international distinguished guests and domestic colleagues will have a fruitful exchange from the symposium. We sincerely hope that all guests and colleagues will enjoy staying in Shanghai.
